The US State Department announced Monday night that it planned to continue disbursing aid to Palestinians, after President Mahmoud Abbas swore in a new unity government earlier in the day which incorporated Hamas, a designated terrorist organization. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that "based on what we know" President Barak Obama's administration intended to continue working with the Fatah-Hamas unity government. Psaki said that Abbas promised to commit to the terms of the Quartet, and that the US will "evaluate the composition and policies of the new government and calibrate our approach accordingly."Is it clear enough now that Israel should have taken more time and care to evaluate and calibrate its own interests before embarking on the baffling staged release under intense US pressure of 104 mostly unrepentant, convicted terrorists/murderers over the past year?
(See "9-Apr-14: Analyzing the failure, what role did the Kerry State Department play?")
Too late now to undo that damage.
