02-Jun-16: Another Arab-on-Israeli knifing attack today and the assailant, again, is a female

The scene of today's attack [Ma'an News Agency]
As reported this afternoon (Thursday) by Times of Israel:
A Palestinian woman approached a military outpost in the West Bank Thursday and attempted to stab a group of soldiers. The troops opened fire and shot her dead, the army said. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the woman tried to attack the soldiers who were stationed at a pillbox-style guard post near the Einav settlement, northwest of the Palestinian city of Nablus. Forces at the scene “responded to the immediate threat by shooting the attacker and killing her,” the IDF said in a statement. No Israeli soldiers were injured... [T]he IDF was still investigating the incident to determine what exactly happened, a spokesperson said.
Ynet reported the attack around 1:00 pm today. The Einav community, home to about 800 people, is located on Route 57 in the Samaria (Shomron) district between the communities of Avnei Hefetz and Shavei Shomron. It has appeared in previous posts of ours, and not - unfortunately - for its very pleasant location and high quality of life:
Who is the now-deceased woman who launched today's assault? We don't know from Israeli sources at this stage. Over at the Bethlehem-based Ma'an News Agency, they take their characteristic, disingenuous line that she was
shot and killed at an Israeli army checkpoint in the northern occupied West Bank on Thursday afternoon, after allegedly attempting to stab a soldier.
At Ma'an, their English-language reports rarely get past this focus on allegedly. Not so in their Arabic-language editions, where the dead woman is already being termed a "martyr". [For background to this European-funded process of glorifying the terrorists, Ma'an-style, see "26-Dec-14: The ongoing search for Arabic-language outrage at the men with the meat-cleavers and knives"]

On the basis of past experience, we will not be surprised if today's knife-woman is a child or a very young woman.

UPDATE Thursday June 2, 2016 at 7:15 pm: Not a child and not a very young woman by the standards of Palestinian Arab stabbers. Ma'an says the woman who attacked Israeli security personnel today and died in the trying is "25-year-old Ansar Hussam Harasha. Harasha... reportedly a married mother of two."

01-Dec-15: Tuesday's Arab-on-Israeli violence continued

It's approaching 12 noon Tuesday here in Jerusalem, and this is an update - our second report of the day - on events in the ongoing Arab-on-Israeli lethal violence. Some will see significance in the fact that all three of these latest attackers are females.
  • A Palestinian Arab woman tried to launch a knifing attack on IDF personnel near Anabta, a village in the Samaria district. Someone alert from among the uniformed service people there spotted her and shot her. She is dead. No one else is hurt. [Ynet, December 01, 2015]
  • Very close to the site of the first attack, in fact strolling distance, a young Palestinian Arab female (name and age not yet reported - that's her in the photo above) was stopped at an IDF checkpoint near Efrat, in Gush Etzion. She arousing the soldiers' suspicions for reasons not yet publicized, and was required to undergo a search. A knife was found among her belongings and she was promptly arrested and being interrogated at the scene. No injuries to anyone. [Ynet, December 01, 2015]
  • A Palestinian Arab woman was shot while trying to stab an IDF officer at a checkpoint next to the Einav community (population: about 600) in the Samaria district. No Israeli casualties, but it appears the woman is now dead. [Times of Israel, December 01, 2015]
One of this morning's attackers, mentioned in our earlier post, is a 16 year old child. That's quite some society they're creating for themselves on the other side of the fence.

And the big picture is worse than the detailed one: according to a poll last month [reported in our post: "22-Sep-15: What do the Palestinian Arabs think?" and echoed in the current edition of The Economist] by a Palestinian Arab survey group, most Palestinians want a return to "armed uprising".

IDF statistics issued this morning quantify the scale of the violence going on around us and directed at every one of us here in this country: 82 knife attacks/stabbings; 30 shootings; 12 attacks-by-vehicle (also called rammings); 1,617 rock-hurling attacks (almost never reported on a per-incident basis); 651 firebomb attacks (also known as Molotov cocktails - also very rarely reported on a per-incident basis). All this since the start of October 2015, and all comprehensively detailed online here

01-Oct-15: Thursday morning stabbing attack thwarted

The ordinary, lethal Palestinian Arab violence that slowly exacts a high price on both sides continues.

A Palestinian Arab male attempted a stabbing attack on an IDF officer in the very early hours of this morning (Thursday) near the Samaria-region community of Einav (population: about 600). Times of Israel says the would-be attacker approached soldiers at a roadblock holding a knife in his hand. There was an "ensuing altercation" in which the attacker was injured, and then treated by a Palestinian Red Crescent crew. He was removed from the scene shortly afterwards by the IDF for interrogation. Israel National News reports that one of the soldiers was also hurt.

Einav, a short drive from Netanya and the coast, was in the news two years ago [report] when a terrorist infiltration of the community was thwarted by the IDF, and in 2012 when an axe-wielding Palestinian Arab rammed his car into a vehicle being driven by security personnel.

3-Dec-12 [UPDATED]: Ax-wielding Palestinian Arab is stopped by Israeli soldiers this morning

There are first reports of an ax-wielding Palestinian Arab shot dead today by IDF soldiers.

Times of Israel and Ynet are both reporting that the man was driving a car on the road between the communities of Shavei Shomron and Einav in the northern Samaria region. Something about him (it's early) aroused the suspicion of the soldiers who gave chase and rammed his vehicle after he failed to stop.

According to the updated Ynet version: "The man's car crashed head on into an army vehicle transporting a Shin Bet officer and other security personnel near the Palestinian village of Deir Sharaf in the West Bank." He emerged from his vehicle and charged at the soldiers with an ax. They shot and killed him. Two soldiers were injured in the clash which caused their vehicle to flip over. It's worth noting that stoning and firebomb attacks on Israeli vehicles have significantly increased in the past month.

UPDATE Monday December 3, 2012 at 1:40 pm: The IDF issued a note around one o'clock this afternoon saying no soldiers were involved in this incident. We're awaiting further details.

UPDATE Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 8:00 am: Ma'an, a Palestinian Arab newspaper, reports the incident under the heading "Palestinian shot dead by Israeli agents near Nablus". It adds these details:
Witnesses identified the dead man as Hatem Shadid of the nearby village of Alar. His vehicle collided with an Israeli jeep near the northern West Bank village of Beit Lid, they told Ma'an... Shadid then approached the Israelis, who were already injured from the crash, hitting one in the head and the other in the shoulder with an object that he was carrying. Israeli officials said it was an axe... Shadid's brother Khaled, reached by Reuters, said he had not received any official notification of the death. He said Shadid was a 35-year-old construction worker with five children.
Consistent with the way reality is depicted in sharply different versions in this ongoing war, a pro-Palestinian Arab version is bouncing around Twitter this morning in this form: "Martyr Hatem Shadid from Illar, Tulkarm - shot dead in cold blood today by Zionist Shin Beth agents".
