The background is that in the battle to bring the Gazan terrorist attacks on Israel to a halt, the IDF took certain measures today, starting at dusk. One of them was to bomb a site in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City. It's a site which Israel's military intelligence identified as being a Hamas underground launching pad for long-range Fajr 5 rockets. Though the details are still sketchy, it's believed the site was also a storage area for those rockets which have the ability to reach Israel's central metropolitan area around Tel-Aviv. The IDF's annotation says that it targeted some twenty such sites tonight.
The aerial photo shows what Israel's spokespeople have been saying for years: Hamas hides behind and within its civilian population. It's the strategy commonly known as taking human shields.
The location of this Gaza City rocket repository is mere meters from a gas station, a playground, a mosque and (as several IDF spokespeople have said tonight) a kindergarten. It's something to keep in mind when the wild claims of disproportion and 'war crimes' start being hurled in Israel's direction.
