25-Feb-08: Got another schoolboy (updated)

Three rockets have been fired into Israel so far this afternoon (it's now 3pm). One landed in Sderot's industrial zone. A second hit a grove adjacent to a Sderot school. A third hit a residential neighborhood of Sderot causing serious injuries to a 10-year-old boy. The Palestinian-Arab Popular Resistance Committees grabbed the 'credit' for today's attack. Paramedics managed to stop the boy's bleeding (Haaretz quotes Magen David Adom rescue services saying the child's arm had been partially severed) and evacuate him to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon. Several other residents were treated for shock. School-children are highly desired targets of the barbarian terrorist thugs of Gaza.

UPDATE 5:00pm: YNet says the child's parents received good news this afternoon. The hospital's deputy director-general, Dr. Ron Lobel, says that doctors managed to save Yossi Haimov's arm though there's serious damage to the tissues and nerves. Yossi walked home from school this afternoon with his eight-year-old sister, Maria. They left their bags in the house and went out to play in the backyard. That's when Gazan-Palestinian-Arab shrapnel from an incoming civilian-targeted rocket struck Yossi's shoulder. The siblings ran - screaming - to a nearby grocery store [captured on video here - but be ready for a painful scene] where the owner called for an ambulance that evacuated the little boy to Barzilai Hospital.

What is it, one might ask, that terrorists want from school children? Surprisingly there is, in fact, an answer. One that's worth writing down before it gets forgotten.

The spokesthug of the Popular Resistance Committees, which claimed responsibility for yesterday's six rockets and today's including the one that came close to severing Yossi's arm, is interviewed here. He says the rockets are a response "to the cartoons published in Denmark degrading the memory of Prophet Muhammad". Oh, and the "crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians". Abed al-Aal says his fellow barbarians are "committed to respond to the cartoons and this is our initial response".

So, Yossi, they say it's about honor. These deeply, deeply religious creatures (who by the way assassinated Yassir Arafat's cousin Moussa, as well as numerous innocent people of various backgrounds in the past few years) say they are compelled to defend the honor of their faith's central figure by means of explosives lobbed into your backyard.

Our advice is do not believe them. If it walks like a thug, talks like a thug, acts like a thug, it's a vicious terrorist thug.

Yossi, as you recover from this outrageous assault on your innocence, we want you to know your wounds and pain come from the deep, deep, unfathomable, blind hatred of these people... and not from their religious faith or anyone else's.

Your posting is both painful and important. Shocking that we live in a time when our own Western media hides the truth from us.
thank you,

Thanks for your comment, Yaakov. We don't have your skill at finding the dry humor in situations like this - wish we did. So we're left with simply laying things out for people who will never, ever see them reported in their local, trusted media channels. It's certainly painful. So too are the events that are being played out day after day in this ongoing war.
